This month, the team at AlexandAlexa buddied up with Yvadney Davis to steal some serious summer inspo, in time for the warmer weeks ahead! A spritz of staycation magic awaits, thanks to the London-based fashion stylist’s good eye and even better looking kids…
After becoming a mum in 2012, Yvadney discovered the uber cool, imaginative and uninhibited world of kids fashion; she prides herself on bringing a touch of her own eclectic style to each new concept, and uses her natural rapport with children to bring the very best out of them! This isn’t the year I thought it would be. 2020 started out with grand pretensions of greatness. It was going to be ‘The best year ever’. It got off to a very shaky start and then, whoosh, the Coronavirus pandemic knocked us off our feet. While, yes, there have been many challenges, I have secretly loved this lockdown period and know for certain, I will look back on it with great fondness. What a gift to be able to hit the pause button, strip back the fuss and recenter on the things that really matter in life. For our family that has meant food, our health and being together.

Before this, we were always out and about seeing friends and family. Impromptu trips to the park and regular trips to the local library to top up on our book supply. The kids had swimming lessons every week and a busy schedule of music lessons too. They loved school and enjoyed seeing all their friends everyday. Fortunately, they have always been close and now it’s just the two of them, their bond is lock tight. Yes they bicker, but I’ve enjoyed watching their relationship blossom. They create make believe games where they are lost in imaginative play for hours. We hear lots of crazy storylines, squeals of laughter and crashes. MG has been helping Lolo with her phonics and she now plays along on his old violin when he practises on his bigger one in the morning.

As I am working considerably less, my time has been freed up to allow me to be with the children a lot more. Aside from homeschool, we have loved baking and cooking together. We started a kitchen garden too and now have an abundant harvest of herbs and cavalo nero, with tomatoes and beetroots on the way. Most importantly the kids have learned to ride their bikes and how to sew.
We’re still a little hesitant to think of booking a holiday just yet and have set our garden up for the ultimate staycation retreat. As the lockdown restrictions lift, while we’re excited to head out further afield for family day trips, we can’t wait to start having friends and family around again. We’re known for our love of entertaining, it’s all about BBQs with the kids running loops around the adults and playing with bubbles, holding onto melting ice lollies and most importantly playing together.
