We last spoke to Peter and Amber late last year, and since then they have gone on to explore even more places. We caught up with the globetrotters and proud parents of twins Leia & Lauren to get travel recommendations, find out where they’ve been since and how the experience has changed now that Leia and Lauren are toddling around.
HOW DIFFERENT IS THE TRAVELLING EXPERIENCE WITH THE GIRLS NOW THAT THEY ARE LITTLE TODDLERS?
It is definitely more challenging as now we have to reason with opinionated little ones! They are constantly trying to explore everything and I guess it makes it their experience. Flights and train rides are our greatest challenge, as they can’t sit still for long and our seat neighbours have to entertain them on their game of peek-a-boo. The upside is they are becoming more aware of the things around them and they really do learn a lot more on their trips.
WHERE HAVE YOU COVERED IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS SINCE YOUR SUMMER TRIP TO ICELAND? ANY RECOMMENDATIONS?
We did a campervan experience to Tasmania in December (it was summer down under), and a central Europe trip in March covering Frankfurt (Germany), Lake Orta (Italy) and Zermatt (Switzerland). Every location has its unique beauty and experience.
ITALY – ROMANTIC LAKE ORTA
The highlight of our central Europe trip has to be Lake Orta- a small, relatively undiscovered haven of peace among the Italian Lakes.
The small medieval town is extremely romantic as it overlooks the snow-capped Alps. It is truly a hidden gem and makes a picture-perfect lakeside holiday!
TASMANIA – GREAT FOR ROAD TRIPS
Tasmania is a nature wonder with plenty of different landscapes around the island to explore. The serene misty lakes in the west, the gorgeous lavender fields up north and the red-rock beaches in the east, there are many options that make it a great road trip destination. We get to enjoy fresh oysters and cheeses on Bruny Island too! Check out our Tasmania travelogue here.
ZERMATT – IDYLLIC LITTLE TOWN
Zermatt, on the other hand, is an idyllic car-free and cosy little town located at the base of Matterhorn. And although the girls are too young to ski in Zermatt, it didn’t matter as it was their first time experiencing snowfall. They were so intrigued with making snowballs! The scenic Glacier Express train to this little town was also a wonderful and memorable ride.
ANY TIPS FOR TRAVELLING WITH TODDLER TWINS?
A road trip is ideal for its full flexibility and allows for us to work our schedule around our babies’ meal and nap times. It has made travelling so much easier with toddlers compared to destinations that include train rides.
MUST-HAVES IN YOUR BAG WHEN TRAVELLING WITH THE TWINS?
Other than the standard formula milk and diapers, the medical kit (thermometer, cooling patches, fever and cold medication, band-aids and rash cream) is a must have in the case of any emergencies. We bring along their Bellamy organic food pouches, comfort snack for them always!
