Amber and Peter Lok are proud parents to their momo twin girls Leia and Lauren. Amber is a marketing professional with keen interest in design and styling, while Peter has a background in finance and his passion is into filmmaking and photography. The two have been married for four years and are based in Singapore with their 16-months old twins and share the girls’ daily little adventures on their Instagram. They are habitual travellers, and in the past 16 months have travelled with their girls to Iceland (twice), Japan, Maldives and Bali. Read more on their travels in the interview below.
HAVE YOU ALWAYS LOVED TO TRAVEL?
Yes, travelling has always been our way of life and we have a travel page where we share our travel moments.
HAS YOUR TRAVELLING HABITS CHANGED SINCE YOU HAD LEIA AND LAUREN?
For sure! My husband and I used to travel so spontaneously before and we were such adrenaline junkies. With our twins in the picture, everything takes a shift. Everything has to be properly planned in advance, from hotels to activities that revolve around their nap/meal times. Their safety is our top priority so many outdoor activities like hiking and diving that we loved doing had to wait till the girls get older.
WHERE HAVE YOU TRAVELLED WITH THE TWINS AND WHICH HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE DESTINATION SO FAR?
Their first flight experience was at 5-months old where we brought them to Iceland in winter for the new year celebrations, a long-haul flight that took a total of 18 hours including a transit in Helsinki. Thereafter they have been to Tokyo and Kyoto at 8-months, Bali at 9-months and Maldives at 11-months. Iceland is our favourite, so we went again in summer when Leia and Lauren turned 13-months!
ANY MEMORABLE STORIES THAT HAPPENED WHILE TRAVELLING WITH THE TWINS?
A memorable experience would be spotting the elusive aurora borealis (northern lights) with our twins from our little cottage tucked away in the wilderness of Iceland. It was simply breathtaking.
WHAT DO YOU FIND IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE WHEN TRAVELLING WITH KIDS?
Jet-lag from time zone difference. We have learnt to allow for a 1-2 day adjustment period for our girls, keeping the itinerary free and easy for the first 2 days on our trips.
ANY MUST-HAVE ITEMS YOU PACK FOR TRAVELLING?
We start with their essentials like formula milk, diapers, medical kit and suitable clothing, all prepared and split in two bags in case either one gets lost. For clothing in cold weather, we prefer a solid coat like the Choe Pink Quilted Wool Coat with Faux Fur Trim to keep warm.
AND FINALLY, DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS TO MAKE TRAVELLING WITH KIDS A SMOOTHER EXPERIENCE?
Pack well in advance and have sufficient rest prior to the flight. Prepare all essentials with contingency in separate bags in case of lost baggage. Select child-friendly hotels and for car rental please reserve car seats in advance. It is important to store emergency numbers and hospital addresses of the country you are visiting in case of emergency. As much as possible, try to coincide the flight timings with your children’s sleep schedule, that will get you a less fussy baby on board!
