LifestyleTHE BEST THINGS TO DO FOR HALLOWEEN WITH AMBER OF MEET THE WILDES

WITH AMBER
OF MEET THE WILDES

Boo! With Halloween just around the corner, we asked Amber of Meet the Wildes to share five super fun activities to do with little ones for Halloween! From cosy nights in to channelling characters and going trick or treating, get inspired by her list below and enjoy this night full of fright and wonder!

1.
Watch Halloween classics.

Is it even Halloween if you don’t watch The Nightmare Before Christmas at least twice?  With the nights creeping in earlier and earlier, it’s the perfect season for cuddling up on the sofa with a bowl of popcorn and a Halloween film or several.  This year, we’re planning to introduce the toddlers to Monsters, Inc but for those of you with older children, let me recommend my favourite Halloween classics: Caspar, Addams Family and of course – Beetlejuice.

2.
Decorate the house

It doesn’t take much to make a home Pinterest-festive for Halloween.  An artful display of pumpkins and conkers on the mantlepiece, fairy lights and a leaf garland, and you’re all set for the season!  Bonus – if ever you wanted an excuse not to dust, now is the time to embrace the occasional cobweb across your ceiling.  It’s perfect!  If your little ones are too small to handle a knife for the pumpkin carving, a couple of pots of acrylic paint and a paintbrush are all you need for a modern twist on the traditional pumpkin.  We like to cover ours in PVA glue and stick little squares of colourful tissue paper across our pumpkins for an eye-catching display that even the smallest hands can safely manage.

3.
Test out some Halloween recipes

Halloween provides so many perfect opportunities to get creative in the kitchen, it would almost be wrong not to!  My soup-hating toddlers have never refused pumpkin soup served in actual pumpkins and they look super impressive as well, especially when the plate is adorned with autumnal foliage.  Make and decorate candy apples and maple-flavoured shortbread leaves.  For the adults, help yourself to a Bloody Mary before getting stuck into helping little hands ice their cookies.

4.
Go trick or treating

Is there anything sweeter than a little ghost or ghoul on the doorstep?  I didn’t think so, so get dressed up, grab your pumpkin bucket and enjoy a super exciting evening collecting treats and making memories.  If you’re wary about knocking on your neighbour’s doors, check and see whether there are any official events organised by your local community so that little ones can safely enjoy their first trick-or-treat experience.  And don’t forget to put out some treats for your neighbourhood children as well!  Individually-wrapped candies are best, and remember to leave out some small inedible treats like little stickers so that children with food allergies can also join in the fun.

5.
Do a Halloween photoshoot

Document your little monster in all of their Halloween finery with a photoshoot for posterity.  We prefer to save trick-or-treating for candid snaps as the toddlers are far too excited by all of the attention to stop and pose.  If your children are similar, schedule a ‘trying on’ session a few days before Halloween to bust out the costumes and check that they fit.  They will be so thrilled to show off their outfits that they won’t mind the camera in the least.  Don’t forget to set up a Halloween backdrop to your images by guiding them toward your artfully-decorated pumpkins, leaf garlands and fairy lights mentioned in point two!

Happy Halloweening!
