Laura Wills is the founder of beautiful style & travel blog The Fashion Bug Blog. She was born in Finland but grew up in the UK and lives in Chelsea with her husband Mark. The pair met 7 years ago, got married in Ibiza last June and she is currently almost 8 months pregnant expecting their first baby, a girl, who is due on July 2nd. We caught up with Laura to find out what she has enjoyed most about her first pregnancy and to get her top picks for new mamas. Read our interview with her below.
WHAT’S THE MOST INVALUABLE PIECE OF ADVICE THAT’S BEEN GIVEN TO YOU SINCE YOU’VE BEEN PREGNANT?
Pregnancy is such an individual experience so it can be hard sometimes to get good advice. Someone told me quite early on in my pregnancy to listen to my own body and do what feels right for me, whether it’s exercise, travel or what I eat etc. You can listen to lots of advice and read all the books out there but at the end of the day you know your body the best and what is right for you & your baby.
WHAT HAVE YOU ENJOYED MOST ABOUT YOUR PREGNANCY?
Pregnancy has had such a positive impact on my life making me feel more confident, grounded and happy than I have ever felt before. I thought I would worry about every little thing when I became pregnant but it’s had the opposite effect on me – I feel calm and relaxed 99% of the time. I don’t fret about the little things anymore. Being responsible for another life is an amazing life-changing experience and it makes me want to be the best possible version of myself.
HAVE YOU DISCOVERED ANY BEAUTY SECRETS ALONG THE WAY?
Yes – I am obsessed with all the Mamma Mio products and will keep using them post pregnancy too as I love the smell and the way they make my skin feel! I also love coconut oil – using it both as a moisturiser and adding a few teaspoons to my morning hot water & lemon drink– apparently it’s great for boosting your immune system and preventing colds!
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP STYLE TIPS FOR MAMAS-TO-BE?
Have fun with your choices and don’t feel that you have to resort to maternity brands. I buy most of my clothes from the brands I normally wear – I just go up one size. Of course there are some things you have to go to maternity brands for– everyone needs a good pair of maternity jeans (I would recommend A Pea In The Pod at Harrods who do designer denim but just add an elastic band) and some comfy trousers (I love everything by the brand Hatch and didn’t even realise it was a maternity brand!). And if all else fails, invest in some new shoes! This will always boost your look and mood!
WHAT WOULD WOULD BE YOUR DREAM BABY SHOWER GIFT?
My sister-in-law (who sadly can’t make my June baby shower) actually already gave me my dream gift – a beautiful blanket personalised with our baby’s name on it. She knows I love anything that is personalised! Otherwise the Bamford Baby Gift Set – I absolutely love their products, or the Little Marc Jacobs Grey Mouse Hat and Booties Gift Set.
AND FINALLY, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO MAMAS-TO-BE WHO ARE IN THE EARLY STAGES OF PREGNANCY?
Allow yourself to slow down a bit – if you are tired then go to bed early or find a way to have a nap in the day. And don’t overthink things. I genuinely believe if you are happy your baby will be happy.
