WITH PATRICIA BRIGHT
To say I have my fingers in a lot of pies would be an understatement… I created my main channel (Patricia Bright) as an outlet to share my passion for all things fashionable and beautiful. The channel started out as a random post here and there while I was a student, but in late 2011 I began taking it more seriously, ensuring that my quality of execution and interaction with subscribers was at its very best. Pre-YouTube, my professional background was in financial consulting but in a few years I’ve grown from 4K subscribers to over a million which is crazy when I think about it – I’m super proud! As a new mother, I’ve recently started to make content more specific to mums, family life and travel and loving it! I have a great respect for my audience; they continue to drive me to do my very best, to feature content which is new, fresh and engaging for YouTube and the wider social community. Outside of the internet world I’ve developed and now sell my own line of hair extensions… and exhale.
What Does Motherhood Mean To You?
An opportunity to make an impact and to share love and give love.
How Did You Feel The First Time You Found Out You Were Going To Be A Mother?
I won’t lie when I first found out I was going to be a mother I was immediately grateful and thankful but extremely nervous at the same time.
It wasn’t something we had planned and me being the overly calculated and organised person that I am, it made me anxious.
How Has Motherhood Changed You?
My tolerance level has increased and I’ve learnt to exercise a lot more patience. Having a little one has helped me understand that not everyone moves at the same speed as me which isn’t necessarily a bad thing – slowing down sometimes can have a positive impact.

The biggest difficulty I would say is juggling work, maintaining my relationships and various commitments and being a mother but being a mother will always be my first priority!
Is There Anything About Motherhood That Has Surprised You?
Just how selfless you have to be and the amount of forward planning needed to get things done. I knew having a baby would change our lives in a dramatic way, but the littlest things (like trying to leave the house on time to make an appointment) can sometimes be a military operation!
How Do You Juggle Everything & Make Time For Yourself?
I have tremendous support from my Husband and family – they help me keep everything organised and in order as well as reminding me to make time for myself.
What Has Been The Best Thing About Being A Mother?
Giving life to this little precious thing has to be the best thing! I’ve connected with Grace in ways I couldn’t even imagine. She is always in my thoughts and every day she teaches me something new.
What Is The One Thing You Want To Teach Grace?
That she has the ability to do anything she puts her mind to! All she needs is hard work, dedication and prayer.
And Finally, What Advice Would You Give To New Mothers?
There’s no one size fits all approach to anything, you can read every book on the planet and join every forum but nothing compares to finding your own rhythm and following your instincts.
You don’t have to lose ‘you’ in the process of being a mum, remember all the things you used to love pre-baby and try to hold on to them.
If it’s going to the gym, adapt the way you do it (find a creche or do a mum and baby class).
Take lots of pictures and videos when they’re really little, they change so much in such a small space of time.
Be prepared to accept help whenever people offer to bless you.
