Mouth-watering pasta, beautiful beaches and picturesque views, Forte dei Marmi has it all. The seaside town in Tuscany, Italy is perfect for relaxing getaways with your family. We caught up with Laura Wills, fashion blogger and mother of two adorable girls, Mila and Anoushka, as she shares where to stay, shopping tips and more. Read our interview with her below.
HAVE YOU ALWAYS LOVED TO TRAVEL?
YES! I fell in love with travelling from a young age – my parents would take my brother and I to lots of new destinations. There is so much beauty in the world so I love to go to new places. That being said I guess the destinations have changed a little since having kids.
HAVE YOUR TRAVELING HABITS CHANGED SINCE YOU’VE HAD YOUR LITTLE ONES?
Yes absolutely. I always wanted to continue to travel and there are lots of places my husband and I go to that perhaps not everyone would. We flew recently to LA – the 14-hour flight was not so much fun neither was the jetlag but the rest of the trip was amazing. However I do understand why people opt for child-friendly hotels – we went to Borgo Ernazia in Puglia last summer and the facilities for children are amazing. I think it’s just about finding whatever works for you as a family.
I had heard a lot about it and seen photos – it always looked so dreamy. The colourful beach huts, the cycling everywhere you go, the food, the mountains as a backdrop…
IS THIS YOUR FIRST TIME IN ITALY?
No. I’ve travelled quite a bit in Italy both before having children and since having children. But this is my first time in Forte dei Marmi.
WHY FORTE DEI MARMI?
I had heard a lot about it and seen photos – it always looked so dreamy. The colourful beach huts, the cycling everywhere you go, the food, the mountains as a backdrop. It is also really easy to get to – just a 30 min drive from Pisa airport.
SNOOZE IN STYLE
We stayed at The Hotel Byron. Its great with kids and good location. They will also give you bikes for your stay and so Mila & I cycled everywhere.
There aren’t really neighbourhoods as such its so small but we loved the town centre (they have a fairground there every day and you can go on horse rides with your little ones.) Great beach clubs just across the road from the hotel and wonderful restaurants. You can easily walk or cycle everywhere.
We were so excited to explore the town as it is known for delicious food and shopping but also the pretty beaches. The water itself isn’t that amazing but the beach huts make up for it! It is so picturesque.
EAT LIKE A LOCAL
Gilda beach club and Tre Stelle. All the pasta dishes are to die for!
There is a market in town apparently on Sundays and Wednesdays where they sell amazing cashmere but sadly we missed it. All the major Italian brands such as Gucci, Miu Miu etc have their own stores in the centre of town so definitely worth visiting!
WHAT DID ANOUSHKA & MILA LOVE DOING IN FORTE DEI MARMI THE MOST?
Mila loved riding on the back of my bike as well as going to the fairground in town. You can drive around the main town square in these little electric cars which is really fun!
ANY MEMORABLE STORIES THAT HAPPENED DURING THIS TRIP?
Nothing crazy but I will always remember riding around on the bike with Mila sitting behind me, her arms wrapped around me singing along to songs together. That was really special.

MUST-HAVE ITEMS TO PACK WHEN TRAVELLING TO FORTE DEI MARMI?
Some Dolce & Gabbana – you cant go wrong 🙂
ANY TIPS FOR FAMILIES TRAVELLING HERE FOR THE FIRST TIME?
Live as the locals do! Ride the bikes, go to the beaches and eat all the pasta!
WHERE TO NEXT?
We just came back from a weekend in Positano and next, we are off to Paris to celebrate our wedding anniversary for one night! Finland, South of France and Ibiza also planned for the summer.
With thanks to the lovely Laura Wills X
