Alex and Alexa is delighted to showcase a whole host of exciting labels; and with our Brand in Focus series we want to share with you a little bit more about the history behind them and how these fashion houses have grown and developed right up to their current collections! This edition: Sonia Rykiel.
Who was Sonia Rykiel?
Sonia Rykiel’s fashion became known in the late 1960s for her Poor Boy Sweater. She created the design herself while pregnant: it featured high cut arms and clung to the body.
She went on to sell the style in her husband Sam’s boutique shop, Laura, where it became a hit. It featured on the cover of French Elle magazine, and legend goes that actress Audrey Hepburn bought 14 – one in every colour it came in.
Some of the key fashion elements of the Sonia Rykiel house include colour, stripes, words and layering – all of which feature in the latest collection….
“Beauty will always be striped.” – Sonia Rykiel
Autumn may be approaching, but that doesn’t mean the wardrobe can’t be filled with colour if you want it to be, and with Sonia Rykiel you’ll find plenty of bright pieces.
There are party styles for dress-up days and occasions, along with cute casual and sporty separates, plus outerwear featuring materials including velour, faux fur and fleece linings.
“It’s important to keep on keeping on, to feel good about yourself and be happy with who you are.” – Sonia Rykiel
Plenty of playful prints and sequins abound in the sweetest accessories, too – from tube scarves to berets – to add those sparkly finishing touches.
And finally, for relaxed home days when you want cool with plenty of comfort, there are cosy logo hoodies and sweatpants for chilling out in style.
