There’s nothing I love more than a garden party and with two of my children born in July, we’ve held plenty of them in our garden or in the park. Of course, this is the UK, so you can never rely on sunshine, but don’t let drizzle spoil your fun as with a great mac and wellington boots, children still love being outside. As the Swedes say, ‘there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes’!
One of the great things about holding a party outside is that the garden or park provides plenty of room for them to run around and play. For my eldest son’s second birthday, we headed to the park where we laid rugs on the ground, tied balloons to the railings and brought along plenty of food for children and adults. We stuck to simple games, brought along a ball, and everyone had a great time! Two years later, we held a bigger joint party, once again in the park, but called in some help in the form of an organised sports party. Again, lots of fun, and with thirty children to control (err I mean entertain!) having two organisers on hand left us only having to worry about the food.
Last year we held a party in our new garden, and this year, I suspect we’ll do the same again. So, with that in mind, I’ve picked a few of my favourite garden party essentials. Just add sunshine!
