CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR FIRST PREGNANCY! HOW FAR ALONG ARE YOU?
Thank you! I’m currently 38 weeks pregnant.
HOW DID YOU FIND OUT YOU WERE PREGNANT?
We both love travelling and never wanted to plan ‘the perfect time’ to get pregnant, we just prayed that it would happen when it’s supposed to. After a year of doing lots of travelling, I had a strange feeling. I then asked Ippe to get me a pregnancy test, and it was positive. I cried. He hugged me. We were ecstatic. We knew right then and there that we were entering a new chapter in our lives. Our family were so overjoyed, especially my mum and dad as they have always wanted a grandchild.
What was also amazing was the first time we announced it to the rest of the world. We created a video and received an overwhelming amount of love and support.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR BEST MEMORIES SINCE GETTING PREGNANT?
There are so many! This journey has truly been life changing. I speak to the baby every day and I can already feel our bond. When I make jokes the baby kicks, and my relationship with my husband has only gotten stronger.
We have also gone on a few ‘babymoons’ since then. We travelled to Bali, Sumba, Yogya, Bangkok, Melbourne and more. Each moment has been so memorable.
This pregnancy has taught me so much about myself. I didn’t think it was possible to fall in love with someone you haven’t met. The feeling is indescribable. On the 8th month of my pregnancy, my best friend Tulus (who is also a singer) and I created a song called Belahan Jantungku (Part of My Heart). We launched the single as I entered my final month of pregnancy which coincided with the Indonesian mother’s day on the 22nd of December. This has allowed me to share my pregnancy through music.
WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST LIFESTYLE CHANGES YOU’VE MADE SINCE GETTING PREGNANT?
The first thing is my sleep schedule. I try to be in bed by 10 pm so I get enough sleep as I tend to wake up early in the morning. It was difficult in the beginning, but I found that my body slowly adjusts to what the baby needs and naturally finds its rhythm.
The next thing is workouts. Before getting pregnant I would exercise four times a week, but since then I’ve been trying to do similar workouts minus anything that requires a lot of jumping. As I neared my third trimester, I started doing low impact workouts. I love pilates, yoga and taichi.
I have also changed my skincare and body care products to organic goods as well as making healthier food choices.
HOW DO YOU JUGGLE YOUR CAREER AND STILL MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF?
Nothing much has changed. From the 1st to 7th month of pregnancy, I did all my activities as I would normally do. From singing performances, photo shoots and recording. Thankfully, everything has gone well. But from the 8th month of pregnancy, I have started minimising my activities. Now that I’m in the last phase before giving birth, I have completely stopped all activities and it’s all about nesting until that very special day comes. (Andien is due on the 14th of January).
DO YOU FEEL PREGNANCY HAS CHANGED YOU?
One hundred percent. It has made me realise that the universe is magical and works in such a beautiful way. What happens to our body is nothing short of a miracle. I am growing a living being inside of me!
ANY TIPS FOR EXPECTANT MOTHERS?
There are a few books that have really helped me during this time. From What to Expect When You’re Expecting, Calm Birth, The Birth Partner and Birthing From Within. I also try to do a lot of research but at the end of the day, the most important thing is to listen to your body and baby. Learn to be selfless and follow the motherly voice within.
