How did you come to live in Ohio?

I was born in Ohio, and have lived here my whole life. I’ve lived in the same rural area for most of that time. I’m sure it’s like a lot of great small towns around the country, and around the world. It has its good parts and bad parts, but when it’s all said and done, there is no place else I’d rather be.

My driving passion is photography. I try to take my camera, or at least my iPhone with me everywhere. You never know where inspiration might take you.

How do you balance family with work life?

Honestly, I don’t. I’ve never been much good at balancing anything in my life. It’s really hard working and raising two kids. You just find a way to make it work. It isn’t always pretty, but it’s always worth it.

Your favourite way to spend time with your kids?

I’m in bliss when my husband and I can take our kids to a new outdoor location. I love watching my son explore creeks and lakes, and my baby just adores feeling the wind on her face. Having new experiences as a family is so important to me.

What are the best things Ohio has to offer families?

There are some really gorgeous State Parks in Ohio. We’re actually going to be taking a mini-vacation to the Hocking Hills in a few weeks. This area features some amazingly beautiful forests and caves.

I think letting children play outside is so important, and we make every effort to get the kids outside every day.

What are the things that concern you as a parent raising children in the world today?

I worry a lot that our world won’t be as safe for my children as it was for me. I’m sure each generation of parents have this fear. Fear of the unknown. It’s something that could debilitate you as a parent, so you really have to keep those worries in check and try to just live each day to the fullest.

What are the hot topics of discussion for American parents right now?

Childhood obesity is a hot topic for a lot of American parents I think. It’s a big concern with the apparent poor quality of public school lunches, and the bombardment of unhealthy choices for kids by the media. I wish we weren’t as unhealthy as a country.
