Linda is an interior stylist, blogger and founder of Live Loud Girl. She lives in Dubai with her husband and their two boys, Jack (7) and Sam (5). They left their home in the Netherlands a few years prior, to work in New York, a city that inspired her love for interior styling so much that she decided to leave her career in marketing and follow this new path. It wasn’t until she landed in Dubai that she finally got the chance to make this dream a full-time job.
Now based in Dubai, Linda and her family live close to the beach, their haven and go-to place after school and weekends. Like any working parent, she sometimes finds it a challenge to juggle caring for her young kids, a career, a household and social life, so she is thankful to have the flexibility that comes with having her own company.
Here Linda shares her passion for interior design, her boys’ bedroom/playroom, how she starts her decorating process and more.

WHERE DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION FOR YOUR HOME?
Inspiration can come from anywhere. Travelling inspires me a lot. Seeing different colours, textures, materials and trends is something I look out for and I tend to always bring little treasures home with me.
I always have interior magazines around to flick through and try to get my hands on the international titles as well. And a lot of inspiration comes from Instagram, I am such an addict. We love finding new trends, products, brands and partners via this way also, it is our #1 source of inspiration.
HOW DO YOU START THE DECORATING PROCESS?
Tough question… It is always different and we never seem to go through the same steps when taking care of a styling project. We work best on our Dutch spontaneity and gut feeling, creating basic yet bold and eclectic designs. We will start with an inspiration board, trying to get the vibe that we want to establish on paper. From there we will start searching for colours, materials and products that match that vibe. The magic happens when we are on the floor and installing it. Many spontaneous changes and unplanned additions will complete the project.
DO YOU HAVE A COLOUR SCHEME OR THEME FOR THE ROOM?
We always name a project after we have finalised it… I know, weird but it works for us. We do not work with themes, more with vibes.
For the boy’s bedroom and playroom, it has been a very gradual process with constant changes and updates. The main item in the bedroom is the Oeuf NYC bunk bed. It had been on my wish list forever and was so happy when my boys got to the age where they could share a room. We are in a very blue phase now with the These Walls wallpaper, DIY dip dye curtains and reading lounger.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SPOT IN THE ROOM AND WHY?
In the playroom I love the Byron Bay Lounger, it is so versatile and we use it for reading, chilling or in the worst case to jump on. With cushions, play mats and throws you can style it any way you want.
HOW HAVE YOU MADE THIS ROOM A FUN SPACE FOR YOUR LITTLE ONES?
Bringing colour into the room really made a big change. We are in love with the St. Pauls Blue by Jotun which brings in the right vibe. We love the storage and try to play around with different styles to make it more playful. And behind all those doors are lots of toys so no one will ever have to be bored here.
ANY FAVOURITE ITEMS IN THE BEDROOM?
We are wallpaper addicts so we love the latest design on the wall. We chose a large scale of the print since the wall is very narrow but the effect is amazing. This wall has seen many designs already. Wallpaper just gives a great effect.
WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR YOU WHEN DECORATING A SPACE?
Any room in your house should tell the story about your life so we always love combining elements that we have gathered along the way. Vintage furniture and accessories give the room some soul and often go surprisingly well with new elements and bolder colours.
AND LASTLY, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE PARENTS TACKLING A HOME DECOR PROJECT?
With a kids room, you always have to keep in mind that they will grow up. So go for a style that they can grow into instead of out of. Storage is one of the key elements for us. Besides being a great way to prevent all the toys being on display, it is nice to play around with different styles. Combining baskets with crates and bags with cabinets can create a playful effect which we love.
If you want to give a room a fresh look, painting a wall is a great option. It is easy to do and easy to change. Wallpaper also gives a great effect as there are so many amazing designs out there. Shop around your own house to find items that complete a room. Not everything has to be brand new.
Last but not least, never shy away from change. Moving around furniture and adding new items to a room will keep your home alive.
