Jessica works in sales for a biotech company by day and runs fashion and lifestyle blog Pretty in Pairs with her twin sister Jenica by night. She is also mother to sweet six-month-old Campbell, named after her mother-in-law. Jessica grew up on the East Coast and moved with Jenica to California a year after college. They now live three blocks away from each other in the heart of San Francisco’s Marina district. She met her husband John just a few years after living in San Francisco, and they have now been married for almost three years. She loves to watch Campbell grow, learn and explore, and as she says ‘there is truly nothing better in life than being a mother.’

WHERE DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION FOR YOUR HOME?
Initially, I gather my thoughts with a Pinterest board. I literally throw any and everything I love there and then pull ideas as I go. Living in San Francisco I don’t exactly have the most spacious place – we live in a two bedroom apartment so I work with what I have, make every inch of space count, and donate regularly.
HOW DID YOU START THE DECORATING PROCESS?
Before I even knew the gender, I knew the nursery would be a neutral palette. I personally gravitate toward whites, greys, but whatever your preference, I think it’s an important place to start. It’s also important to me to have a sense of continuity from one room to the next; my entire apartment has taken on this color palette, so it was only natural to have the nursery do the same. Beyond that, the right furniture is the priority – my first purchase was actually our rocking chair. Everyone thinks I’m crazy for buying a white chair for her room-I probably am, but I feel like its worth noting that it is still white and we have had no accidents. Once I picked the chair I then focused on the other big pieces; after everything arrived and I could understand the space, I knew what accent pieces we would have room for.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE SPOT IN THE ROOM AND WHY?
Six months in, I have to say the rocking chair. I have spent many long nights feeding and rocking, particularly those first few weeks as a first time mom when you truly have no idea what you’re doing. I still spend every night in that chair. Our bedtime routine consists of feeding, books and lullabies. It’s a calming space in our home and I love it.
HOW HAVE YOU MADE THIS ROOM A FUN SPACE FOR CAMPBELL?
I have baskets in the bookshelf where we keep all of her toys and books and she loves to play on the faux rug. I’m sure as she gets older I’ll have to make some changes, but right now she loves it.
WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR YOU WHEN DECORATING A SPACE?
That nothing looks cluttered. I really strive for the feel to be homey and warm, but with a touch of minimalism and clean lines.
AND LASTLY, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE PARENTS TACKLING A HOME DECOR PROJECT?
Invest in good pieces you know will last, make sure you love it and don’t be afraid to mix collections.
