Are you thinking about packing up your tent and taking your little ones off to catch the last of this summer’s festivals? There’s so many amazing events happening throughout August and September and many of them are geared towards families. But spending the weekend under canvas doesn’t come without it’s challenges. Will there be healthy food on offer? How will you manage the loo in the night, not to mention if everyone will be able to sleep… From wet wipes and hand sanitiser to sunblock and bug spray, we asked A&A Collective blogger (and family festival veteran) Brianne Manz of Stroller in the City to share her essentials for stress-free weekend. Find out what what’s in her failsafe festival kit below…
We try to hit at least one family-friendly concert or music festival during the summer, if we can. I try to pick music that will be family friendly like folk music or a kids concert. Wherever we go I always make sure I’m prepared with a few essentials for a day outside but also on-the-go.
I like to pack one of those big canvas monogrammed boat totes. Sure it can get a little heavy but everything is in one place. For food, sandwiches or wraps are great for a picnic because we can share them and no utensils are required. Dried fruits and nut medleys travel well and are healthy for the kids. Always bring plenty of water and refillable bottles so you don’t spend a fortune on bottled water.
Bring blankets, not chairs. Chairs are cumbersome and when you’re a family of five it adds up. Big lightweight blankets pack down to nothing and are perfect for a picnic in the grass.
Wipes and hand sanitizer. You never know if you will have access to sinks or what the toilet situation will be at a festival so just come prepared. Also a spray SUNBLOCK and bug spray!!
Comfortable shoes for everyone and clothes that don’t trip you up. Hats and sunglasses are a must. Bring a few changes of clothes for the kids and layers for all—the weather can turn chilly at night.
