After observing the uniforms of American polo players he decided to create a new kind of shirt, with an innovative button down collar. Ben Sherman’s designs also quickly became famous for his controversial use of colour, incorporating candy pink, pale blues, yellows and greens into traditional English checks and ginghams. This new style was completely revolutionary in England and the look was quickly taken up by the pioneers of British youth culture. Following this golden era for London style, Ben Sherman went on to become a defining brand for every trans-atlantic youth movement for tthe next 50 years.
