Escaping a grey London, this week our Alex and Alexa buyer’s jetted off to the historic city of Florence to visit Pitti Bimbo AW17. Held in Fortezza da Basso, an old former castle in the city, the bi-annual trade show for children’s fashion is now in its 84th season.
Internationally known for its playful themes and creativity, this year’s theme #PittiDanceOff was no disappointment, inviting buyers from across the globe to express their style and personality through music (with the odd disco ball dotted around!).
Arriving in the heart of Florence, the team were excited to see what trends and fashion brands AW17 had to offer. With 503 collections expected, up-and-coming brands such as Minna Parikka were showcased along with firm favourites including Little Marc Jacobs, Kenzo Kids and Il Gufo.
For the latest edition two new sections were added to the Fortezza’s main pavillion: The Nest showcasing smaller, independent brands and the Fancy Room dedicated to children’s lifestyle from accessories to high-tech gadgets. Other sections included the familiar Superstreet, showcasing street trends of junior and teen clothing.
During their visit the buyers attended the Il Gufo fashion show, a showstopping event and a key highlight of the trip. Held in an old Odeon Cinema, more than 1500 balloons filled stage to create a magical illusion. With Il Gufo using the hashtag #ilgufobelievesinmagic, it was a definite crowdpleaser!
